The Faculty of Law Regulation No. 8 of 1939 introduced the Department of Penal Law, which supervised the academic subjects related to the department, and the successive regulations in the college continued to explicitly stipulate the existence of the department and its supervision of the courses of the branch at the bachelor’s level, in addition to its direct supervision of postgraduate, master’s, and doctoral studies. Since its inception, a group of jurists in criminal specialization, in addition to holding scientific conferences, seminars, and workshops within the framework of the branch for the purpose of increasing legal awareness of legal and non-legal persons, and the branch has a new addition, which is the study of the professional diploma in combating corruption in terms of teaching and supervising students, as one of the goals of the criminal branch Preparing generations of jurists and researchers to serve the community and state institutions in its various sectors and to provide the scientific branch with teachers holding higher degrees and scientific titles to continue the research and scientific endeavor.

Postgraduate studies were opened in the branch in 1968–1969.

The Criminal Law Branch is concerned with the organization of postgraduate studies, masters, and doctorates and the number of graduate students as highly qualified academics who undertake academic tasks in Iraqi universities as well as in the judiciary and the rest of the state’s departments, its various ministries and the State Council, as the Criminal Law Branch and over the years have produced an elite group of jurists in the aforementioned specializations They had an important role in society and political life, as well as holding specialized scientific conferences within the framework of the criminal branch, the most recent of which was the conference that was held in 2017, holding seminars and workshops, emphasizing and urging cooperation with other state institutions with the aim of increasing and enriching legal awareness of legal and non-legal matters, in addition to participating in the study of the Professional Diploma in Anti-Corruption in terms of teaching and supervising students. The criminal branch aims to prepare a generation of legal elites who are qualified to serve the community and state departments in its various sectors and to strengthen the staff of the scientific branch with professors who hold scientific degrees and titles to continue in scientific and research giving.

The Criminal Law Branch is keen to ensure that its affiliates are both students and professors and have a distinguished position among the departments of faculties of law, through the quality of the academic programs it adopts and its unique achievements in the field of scientific research, as well as its contribution to community service and the development of its members.

Message

The Criminal Law Branch is interested in organizing postgraduate studies (Master’s and Ph.D.) and in preparing graduate students as highly qualified academics to undertake academic tasks in Iraqi universities as well as in the judiciary and the rest of the state’s departments, its various ministries, and the State Council. In society and political life, as well as holding scientific conferences specialized in the framework of the criminal branch, holding seminars and workshops, and emphasizing and urging cooperation with other state institutions to increase and enrich legal awareness of legal and non-legal.
