The College of Law at the University of Baghdad Organizes a Workshop on the Role of Iraqi Universities in Combating the Spread of Drugs

The Career Development and Employment Unit at the College of Law, University of Baghdad, organized a workshop on Sunday, April 13, 2025, titled “The Role of Iraqi Universities in Combating the Spread of Drugs.” The workshop was presented by Assistant Lecturer Jalila Ghadban Ouda.

The workshop aimed to raise students’ awareness of the dangers of drug abuse, highlight the crucial role universities play in spreading awareness, promoting a culture of prevention within the academic environment, and contributing to the reduction of drug use among youth both within and beyond the university community.

The workshop focused on two main topics:

  1. An overview of drugs and the risks associated with their spread in university settings, including their negative impact on youth, especially in terms of academic performance and general behavior.
  2. The preventive and educational role of universities in addressing this issue—through awareness, deterrence, and contributing to rehabilitation efforts via specialized programs and partnerships with relevant institutions.

The workshop concluded with several key recommendations, including:

  1. Instilling Islamic values and ethical principles in students and youth.
  2. Organizing regular awareness sessions and workshops with the participation of specialists from the Ministries of Health and Interior, as well as civil society organizations.
  3. Strengthening cooperation between universities and relevant institutions to implement joint programs for early detection and preventive intervention.
  4. Monitoring student behavior on campus, developing mechanisms to detect behavioral changes, and offering appropriate support.
  5. Designing and distributing awareness posters that illustrate the health, psychological, and economic harms of drug use.

This workshop is part of the College of Law’s ongoing efforts to enhance community awareness, reinforce the preventive role of universities, and foster a safe and healthy academic environment that protects students from harmful behaviors.
