The college of law at the University of Baghdad discussed the master’s thesis in the international law of the student (Ghufran Mustafa Kamil), tagged with(environmental debt in public international law), on Wednesday, corresponding 28/8/2024 on the model courtroom at the college .
The thesis aims to achieve a balance in international environmental relations between the countries of the south and the global north, as well as to achieve sustainable development of natural resources, especially in the countries of the south to protect the right of future generations to a healthy environment .
The thesis included three chapters, the first of which dealt with the conceptual framework of environmental debt, the second chapter dealt with international efforts to enshrine the concept of environmental debt, and the third chapter dealt with the mechanisms of environmental debt settlement .
The letter came out with several recommendations, the most important of which is that international environmental law should include provisions regulating the economic expansion and unbridled exploitation of people and nature instead of just trying to mitigate its excesses, reformulating the concept of environmental religion by studying the ways in which international law has historically dealt with nature and with the peoples of the global south in order to eliminate policies and practices that subjugate the countries of the south and accelerate the destruction of the planet’s ecosystems.
