The College of Law at the University of Baghdad held a scientific workshop on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, titled \u201cThe Role of Digital Documentation in Preserving Cultural Heritage.\u201d<\/span><\/strong>
The workshop was presented by Assistant Lecturer Sura Adeeb Hameed and took place in the Model Courtroom.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

The workshop highlighted the vital role digital documentation plays in protecting cultural heritage from loss and deterioration, particularly in light of the threats this heritage faces from the passage of time, natural disasters, wars, and neglect. The presenter emphasized that digital documentation technologies\u2014such as 3D imaging, videos, databases, and digital scanning\u2014are effective tools for ensuring the preservation of secure digital copies that can be referenced when needed.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

The workshop addressed several key topics, including:<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

    \n
  1. \n

    Defining the concept of heritage and its types.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  2. \n

    Clarifying the importance of heritage from religious, economic, cultural, historical, and social perspectives.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  3. \n

    Introducing the digitization of heritage and explaining how it can be used to preserve cultural legacies.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    The workshop concluded with several important recommendations, including:<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

    1. \n

      The need to develop digital infrastructure and provide modern equipment and platforms for storing digital data, with an emphasis on using artificial intelligence, digital imaging, and 3D scanning in archaeological documentation.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<\/li>\n

    2. \n

      Strengthening collaboration between national and international institutions\u2014including museums, universities, and cultural centers\u2014for the exchange of expertise and resources.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<\/li>\n

    3. \n

      Adopting standardized digital documentation practices to ensure compatibility, ease of exchange, and data retrieval.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
