As part of its ongoing academic activities aimed at enhancing legal awareness among students, the Continuing Education Unit at the College of Law \u2013 University of Baghdad organized a workshop on April 17, 2025, entitled: \u201cThe Amendment of Personal Status Law No. (1) of 2025: A Critical and Analytical Perspective.\u201d<\/em><\/span><\/strong>
The workshop was delivered by Professor Dr. Hameed Sultan Ali and attended by college members, students, and staff of the College, held at the College\u2019s Conference Hall.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

\ud83d\udfe4 The workshop aimed to introduce the recent amendments to the Iraqi Personal Status Law, in accordance with the system of Sharia-based codifications, and to highlight the key provisions introduced by the amendment.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

\ud83d\udfe3 The workshop addressed several main topics, including:<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

    \n
  1. \n

    An introduction to the importance of the family and its role in society.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  2. \n

    A definition and explanation of the concept of the Sharia codification.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  3. \n

    A detailed overview of the provisions introduced by the amendment and the most significant legal issues it addressed.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    \ud83d\udfe2 The workshop concluded with several key recommendations, most notably:<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

      \n
    1. \n

      The Sharia codification should not serve as a substitute for the provisions of the currently applicable law.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<\/li>\n

    2. \n

      Recourse to the codification should be limited to matters not addressed by existing legal provisions.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<\/li>\n

    3. \n

      The Scientific Council of the Shiite Endowment Authority should fully assume its role in preparing the codification within the prescribed timelines.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
