Scientific Symposium on Civil Liability Arising from Artificial Intelligence<\/span><\/strong>
\nCollege of Law \u2013 University of Baghdad<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

The Private Law at the College of Law \u2013 University of Baghdad organized a scientific symposium addressing a published academic study entitled: \u201cCivil Liability Arising from Damages Caused by Artificial Intelligence.\u201d<\/em> The lecture was delivered by Assistant Professor Dr. Nasreen Ghanem Hanoun on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, at the Model Court Hall of the College.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

The symposium shed light on the legal challenges associated with attributing civil liability for damages potentially resulting from artificial intelligence applications. This is particularly relevant in light of the absence of specific legislative regulation and the insufficiency of traditional legal rules in addressing such emerging forms of harm.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

The study further analyzed leading Western legal theories and presented legislative proposals that align with the nature of intelligent systems and the requirements of the Iraqi legal environment.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

The symposium concluded with a set of key recommendations, most notably:<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Calling upon the Iraqi legislature to develop a comprehensive legal framework governing the uses of artificial intelligence.<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n
  2. Incorporating specialized legal provisions concerning information technology into the curricula of law faculties.<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n
  3. Establishing clear regulations for civil liability arising from AI-related damages, inspired by the experiences of advanced jurisdictions.<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n
  4. Taking into consideration the unique nature of this form of liability and reassessing the adequacy of existing traditional legal rules in this domain.<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
