In the context of efforts to combat desertification and climate change, the Continuing Education Unit at the College of Law, University of Baghdad, organized a workshop titled “The Green Belt Program: Between Reality and Challenges” on Sunday, March 9, 2025, in the Leadership Hall. The workshop was presented by Asst.lect. Heba Naama Mansour, covering various aspects of the project and its significance.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

The workshop reviewed the benefits of the Green Belt project, which aims to halt the desert’s encroachment into the heart of Iraq and mitigate its environmental consequences. It also highlighted the stages of implementing the project, starting with feasibility studies and site selection, followed by design and implementation, and concluding with maintenance, environmental sustainability, and investment.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

The workshop produced several key recommendations, including:<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

    \n
  1. The need to establish a specialized body to monitor the implementation of the project, which extends from the north of Mosul Governorate to the south of Basra.<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n
  2. Launching effective programs and policies to ensure the successful completion of the national project.<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n
  3. Learning from successful countries’ experiences and collaborating with leading companies in the field of environmental investment.<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n
  4. Adopting a comprehensive strategy to overcome obstacles and achieve the goals of this vital national project, which represents Iraq’s vision in addressing desertification and climate change.<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    This workshop is part of a series of efforts to raise awareness about the importance of the Green Belt project and to provide solutions to ensure its success, guaranteeing a sustainable environment and a better future for future generations.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n
