{"id":5326,"date":"2025-02-08T19:12:41","date_gmt":"2025-02-08T19:12:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.colaw.uobaghdad.edu.iq\/?p=5326"},"modified":"2025-02-08T19:12:41","modified_gmt":"2025-02-08T19:12:41","slug":"the-college-of-law-discusses-a-masters-thesis-on-the-legal-protection-of-the-right-to-a-safe-working-environment-for-workers-in-the-ionizing-radiation-sector","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/en.colaw.uobaghdad.edu.iq\/?p=5326","title":{"rendered":"The College of Law Discusses a master&#8217;s thesis on the Legal Protection of the Right to a Safe Working Environment for Workers in the Ionizing Radiation Sector."},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wpb-content-wrapper\"><p>[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 18px\">The college of Law at the University of Baghdad discussed a master&#8217;s thesis in the public law by student Rukia Abdul-Ridha Hassan, titled <em>&#8220;Legal Protection of the Right to a Safe Working Environment for Workers in the Ionizing Radiation Sector \u2013 A Comparative Study&#8221;<\/em>, on Thursday, February 6, 2025, in the College&#8217;s Leadership Hall.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 18px\">The discussion committee consisted of:<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify\">\n<li><strong><span style=\"font-size: 18px\">Prof. Dr. Firas Abdul-Razzaq Hamza \u2013 Chairman<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong><span style=\"font-size: 18px\">Prof. Dr. Asiya Hamid Hamad \u2013 Member<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong><span style=\"font-size: 18px\">Assoc. Prof. Dr. Musaddaq Adel Taleb \u2013 Member<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong><span style=\"font-size: 18px\">Prof. Dr. Saba Nauman Rashid \u2013 Member and Supervisor<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 18px\">The thesis aimed to protect workers in radiation-related jobs from physical harm that may result from exposure to radiation. It proposed effective measures to protect them, such as regular inspections, providing protective equipment, enhancing training, sharing information about radiation risks and prevention methods, and establishing a legal framework and international agreements to ensure a safe working environment for workers in this field.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 18px\">The thesis included three chapters:<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify\">\n<li><strong><span style=\"font-size: 18px\">The first chapter addressed the concept of ionizing radiation and its effects.<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong><span style=\"font-size: 18px\">The second chapter focused on international and Arab protection of workers&#8217; rights from the effects of ionizing radiation.<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong><span style=\"font-size: 18px\">The third chapter discussed the protection of workers in radiation jobs under ionizing radiation laws in Iraq and comparative countries.<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 18px\">The thesis concluded with several recommendations, the most important of which are:<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 18px\">To control and mitigate the negative effects of radiation, attention should be given to designing radiation work areas in a way that protects workers, the public, and the environment from radiation hazards, as well as educating workers about radiation risks and training them on ways to prevent exposure.<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 18px\">Workers exposed to radiation by the nature of their job should be required to comply with international safety standards and wear personal protective equipment, with strict penalties for non-compliance.<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 18px\">Reform national legislation in light of the need for its inclusion in the National Nuclear, Radiological, Chemical, and Biological Control Authority Law to prohibit women from working with radiation, with exceptions based on specific conditions, such as pregnancy.<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 18px\">Workers exposed to ionizing radiation should be required to use standard films to monitor their personal radiation exposure, as many workers neglect to carry them.<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 18px\">Eliminate conflicts between labor law and the National Nuclear, Radiological, Chemical, and Biological Control Authority Law regarding the prohibition of women working with radiation, by making such prohibitions subject to certain conditions, such as pregnancy.<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<li>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 18px\">Recommend increasing the number of years for social security benefits to continue after a worker&#8217;s service ends, as occupational diseases caused by radiation exposure may not show symptoms until many years after service has ended, possibly up to ten years or more. It is better to leave the duration to be determined by the specialized medical committee.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column]<div id=\"cz_50668\" class=\"cz_grid_p cz_50668\"><div class=\"cz_grid cz_grid_1 clr cz_grid_c2 cz_grid_l2 cz_grid_1_no_title cz_grid_1_mid tac cz_tooltip cz_grid_1_no_title\"><div class=\"cz_grid_item
