The College of Law at the University of Baghdad discussed a master’s thesis in the International Law of the student (Alia Hussein Nasser), tagged with (the rights of people with special needs in the framework of sustainable development), on Thursday, 28\/11\/2024 on the model courtroom at the college.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

The discussion committee consisted of professors: Dr. Hussam Abdel Amir Khalaf as president, Dr. Ghassan Sabri as a member, Dr. Nibras Ibrahim Muslim as a member, Dr. Mahmoud Khalil Jafar as a member and supervisor.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

The thesis aimed to clarify the rights granted by international charters to people with special needs under international law and to indicate the International and national mechanisms provided by the United Nations Convention on the rights of persons with disabilities 2006 to highlight sustainable development and its goals for the year 2030 and its importance as a human right and the relationship between disability and its goals.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

The thesis included three chapters, the first of which dealt with the conceptual framework of people with special needs and sustainable development, the second chapter dealt with the legal regulation of the protection of people with special needs in international charters and the framework of sustainable development, and the third chapter dealt with mechanisms to protect the rights of people with special needs.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

The thesis came up with several recommendations, the most important of which are:<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

1-we recommend that the Iraqi legislator accede to the Optional Protocol to the International Convention on the Rights of persons with disabilities for a year 2006.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

2 – we call on the Iraqi legislator to make the commission for the care of people with disabilities and special needs to make an independent body, because if it remains affiliated with the Ministry of Labor and social affairs, it will execute its personality and role in representing people with special needs.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

3-the need to include disability issues in government programs in order to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals 2030.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

4-the need to create special homes and institutes for people with disabilities in other governorates so that all people with disabilities can benefit from the services provided.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n
