The College of law at the University of Baghdad discussed a master’s thesis in the field of international law by the student (Fatima Majid Abdul Wahab), titled “Legal Obstacles to the Practice of International Criminal Jurisdiction”, on Thursday, October 19, 2023, in the Model Courtroom at the college.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

The thesis aims to identify the obstacles facing the application of international criminal jurisdiction and work on developing a set of solutions and proposals to address the main challenges and problems related to the principle of international criminal jurisdiction.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

The thesis consisted of three chapters. The first chapter discussed the general framework of the practice of international criminal jurisdiction, while the second chapter addressed the obstacles to the practice of international criminal jurisdiction. The third chapter focused on the applications of the principle of international criminal jurisdiction.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

The thesis concluded with several recommendations, the most important of which is amending Article (13) of the Iraqi Penal Code No. (111) of 1969, which deals with international criminal jurisdiction. The amendment should involve introducing new crimes in its content, replacing the phrase “sabotage or disruption of intelligence means” stated in Article (13) of the effective Iraqi Penal Code, and using the phrase “sabotage or disruption of communication means”.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n
