The Criminal Law Branch at the College of Law at the University of Baghdad held a symposium entitled (The Function of Punishment in Islamic Law and Sharia), delivered by the lecturer in the Criminal Law Branch (Professor Dr. Kazem Abdullah Al-Shammari), and in the presence of a number of college and students of the college, on Tuesday 23\/5\/2023 On the conference hall in the college.<\/span><\/p>\n

The symposium aims to highlight the concept of the function of punishment in accordance with Islamic law and Sharia, as well as shed light on the contemporary penal policy aimed at reducing punishment and calling for the individualization of punishment.<\/span><\/p>\n

The symposium included several axes, including the function of punishment in law, and the function of punishment in Islamic Sharia.<\/span><\/p>\n

The symposium came out with several recommendations, the most important of which is the introduction of the concept of punishment in Islamic Sharia because it represents the real function of punishment, as well as the adoption of modern penal policy regarding punishment, which is represented by limiting punishment, expanding the scope of individualizing punishment and adopting alternatives to punishments by short-term imprisonment.<\/span><\/p>\n
