The College of Law is dedicated to supporting individuals with special needs in various aspects, including education, scientific research, and legal services. Here are the main areas of focus:
•Facilitating Education for Individuals with Special Needs: The College of Law provides an inclusive educational environment and exam accommodations, such as extended time or the use of assistive tools.
•Raising Awareness and Conducting Legal Studies: The College plays a role in increasing awareness through research on the legal rights of individuals with special needs, organizing conferences and seminars on their legal issues, and collaborating with human rights organizations to protect their rights and promote their participation in society.
•Providing Legal Support and Judicial Assistance: The College of Law establishes legal clinics that offer free consultations to individuals with special needs and supports their cases in court to ensure their rights in employment, education, and healthcare. Additionally, it works to improve access to justice by simplifying judicial procedures.
•Promoting Their Integration into the Legal Workforce: The College encourages the employment of law graduates with special needs in law firms and judicial institutions, offering training courses to help them practice legal professions, and advocating for policies that support their employment in various legal sectors.
Thus, law schools play a pivotal role in legally empowering individuals with special needs through education, research, and legal assistance.
Activities of Students with Special Needs
One notable student is Maryam Hussein Rasoul, a fourth-year student who excels in writing and conducting scientific research in important applied legal fields. Some of her research topics include:
•“The Appeal Not Stipulated in the Iraqi Civil Procedure Code”
•“The Temporary Suspension of Contractual Obligations”
•“Marriage of Minors in Iraqi Legislation and Some Other Arab Laws”
•“Customs and Traditions in Conflict with the Law”
•“Agency: Its Concept, Conditions, and the Possibility of Delegating Authority”
She began writing research papers at the end of her third year and has published in a student-run academic journal, which she co-founded with a group of fourth-year students, occasionally joined by students from other years.
Notably, Maryam selected these topics based on her passion for thought-provoking subjects and her interest in societal issues that have a broad impact on individuals’ lives.
