The University Psychological Counseling Unit at the College of Law, University of Baghdad, held a scientific seminar entitled “Promoting Mental Health for Building a Sustainable Society.” The seminar was delivered by Assistant Lecturer Zainab Rzouqi Shamakh on Monday, June 15, 2026, at the College of Law building.

The seminar aimed to introduce the concept of mental health and highlight its importance in the lives of individuals and society. It also sought to raise awareness of the role of mental health in achieving sustainable development, develop skills for coping with psychological and academic pressures, encourage positive behaviors that support mental well-being, and demonstrate the role of educational institutions in providing a supportive university environment. In addition, the seminar emphasized the importance of promoting a culture of dialogue, tolerance, and social cohesion among members of society.

At the conclusion of the seminar, several recommendations were put forward, most notably the expansion of awareness and educational programs related to mental health; encouraging students to seek psychological support when needed without fear of social stigma; strengthening student activities that develop social and psychological skills; utilizing media outlets and social media platforms to promote mental health awareness; building partnerships between educational and healthcare institutions to support mental health programs; and providing a safe and motivating educational environment that contributes to enhancing students’ psychological well-being.
