The Continuing Education Unit at the College of Law – University of Baghdad held a scientific workshop entitled “Environmental Pollution and Its Impact on Achieving Sustainable Development Goals” on Wednesday, 13 May 2026. The workshop was delivered by Assistant Lecturer Sura Adeeb Hameed in the Virtual Court Hall.

The workshop aimed to introduce the concept of environmental pollution, its types and causes, and to explain the relationship between the environment and sustainable development. It also highlighted the impact of environmental pollution on achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), in addition to introducing the most important international agreements related to environmental protection.

The workshop included three main sections. The first section addressed the concept and types of environmental pollution, while the second discussed the concept of sustainable development and its goals. The third section focused on the impact of environmental pollution on achieving sustainable development goals and the challenges associated with it.

The workshop concluded with several recommendations, most notably enhancing the implementation of international environmental protection agreements, strengthening oversight of polluting industrial activities, supporting renewable energy and green economy projects, promoting environmental awareness and culture in educational and media institutions, supporting national legislation related to environmental protection and sustainable development, and encouraging scientific research in the fields of clean technology and waste management.
