The College of Law at University of Baghdad, in cooperation with the College of Law at Al-Nahrain University and the College of Law at Imam Ja’afar Al-Sadiq University, organized an international conference entitled “The International Conference on the System of Sharia Codes and Their Role in Regulating Family Legal Rulings” on Thursday, May 7, 2026, at the campus of Imam Ja’afar Al-Sadiq University. The conference was held under the slogan:
“Sharia Codes: A Jurisprudential and Legal Integration for Protecting the Family and Promoting Justice,”
with the participation of a distinguished group of academics, researchers, and specialists in legal and Islamic studies.
The conference commenced with the Iraqi national anthem, followed by the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah in tribute to the souls of Iraq’s martyrs, within an academic atmosphere that reflected the spirit of national belonging and honored the sacrifices of the martyrs.
The conference included two scientific sessions that presented a number of legal and jurisprudential studies and research papers concerning Sharia codes and their role in regulating family legal rulings. Researchers discussed the importance of integration between jurisprudential and legal perspectives in addressing contemporary family issues, in a manner that contributes to strengthening family stability and consolidating the principles of social justice.
Participants also examined the major legislative challenges related to family laws and explored ways to develop the legal system in line with contemporary social and jurisprudential developments. They emphasized the importance of adopting modern academic approaches that contribute to protecting the family and preserving its cohesion.
The conference concluded with the distribution of certificates of appreciation and commemorative shields to members of the scientific and preparatory committees, as well as participating researchers, in recognition of their academic and organizational efforts and their contribution to the success of the conference and the achievement of its academic objectives.
