The Psychological Counseling and Educational Guidance Unit at the College of Law, University of Baghdad, organized a scientific workshop on Sunday, April 12, 2026, titled “Suicide: Causes and Prevention Methods.” The workshop was delivered by Assistant Lecturer Jalila Ghadban Ouda at the college building.

The workshop aimed to introduce the phenomenon of suicide and highlight its serious impact on both individuals and society. It also sought to reduce suicide rates by addressing underlying social, psychological, and economic issues at multiple levels. Emphasis was placed on the importance of identifying the root causes of this phenomenon and developing effective solutions to mitigate it.

The workshop covered several key themes. The first section focused on defining suicide and examining its causes. The second addressed associated symptoms, including social, economic, and behavioral indicators. The third section explored prevention strategies and methods to reduce the phenomenon through comprehensive and root-level interventions targeting the contributing factors.

In conclusion, the workshop presented several recommendations, most notably the need to raise awareness about the dangers of suicide, highlight the effects of impulsive behavior, and address the impact of substance abuse on individual actions. It also emphasized the importance of developing comprehensive solutions at professional, familial, and behavioral levels, as well as organizing continuous awareness workshops and seminars within educational institutions.
