The workshop was held by the Continuing Education Unit at the college and delivered by Assistant Professor Dr. Mustafa Salem Abd on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, at the Graduate Studies Hall.

The workshop aimed to highlight the importance of the olive cultivation sector in supporting the national economy and to shed light on its role in achieving sustainable development in Iraq. It also sought to enhance environmental awareness regarding the significance of olive farming in combating desertification and protecting natural resources, as well as to emphasize its contribution to achieving food security and encouraging the expansion of local production.

The workshop addressed several key topics, including the general framework of olive cultivation, its economic and social importance, and a discussion of its environmental dimension and role in achieving sustainable development goals.

At the conclusion of the workshop, several recommendations were issued. The most notable included the need to increase government support for the olive cultivation sector, provide soft loans to farmers, encourage agricultural investment, adopt modern irrigation techniques such as drip irrigation, expand olive farming to combat desertification, and support scientific research in the agricultural field.
