The Continuing Education Unit at the College of Law – University of Baghdad organized a scientific workshop on Sunday, 22 February 2026, at the Model Court Hall entitled:
“Drugs: A Profitable Trade Paid for by Members of Society.”
The workshop was delivered by Assistant Lecturer Masooma Hamed Abdulrahman.
The workshop aimed to highlight the phenomenon of drugs as an illegal trade that generates enormous profits at the expense of the security and safety of society. It also discussed the legal, social, and economic consequences of drug abuse and its dangerous effects on individuals, families, and institutions.
The workshop addressed several topics:
1.The concept of drugs
2.Drugs as an illegal trade
3.The consequences of drug abuse and its spread in society
4.Drugs in the light of Iraqi law
5.The role of governmental and social institutions in combating drugs and limiting their spread
Recommendations of the Workshop:
The workshop concluded with several recommendations, most notably:
•Activating the role of the family in supervision and guidance
•Enhancing public awareness
•Promoting responsible media to spread legal awareness
•Introducing systematic awareness programs that contribute to early prevention and the development of a generation aware of the dangers of drugs
This workshop comes as part of the College of Law’s commitment to its awareness mission and community service through scientific activities addressing current legal and social issues.
