The Continuing Education Unit at the College of Law – University of Baghdad organized a scientific workshop on Wednesday, 18 February 2026, at the Model Court Hall entitled:

“The Role of Family Counseling Centers in Resolving Family Disputes in Law.”

The workshop was presented by Dr. Mohammed Ahmed Issa and Assistant Lecturer Ahmed Amer Abdul-Amir, in the presence of a number of faculty members, employees, and students.

Aim of the Workshop

The workshop aimed to explain the central role of family counseling centers in supporting family stability, clarifying family rights and duties, and promoting correct concepts of family culture. It also discussed the causes of family disputes and ways to resolve them, with particular focus on the current situation of family counseling centers in Iraq.

Main Topics Discussed

The workshop addressed several key themes, including:

•The concept of family counseling centers and domestic violence, and the conceptual framework of the topic

•Sources and causes of family conflicts

•The working mechanisms of family counseling centers in Iraq

•Methods and approaches used in resolving family disputes

Recommendations of the Workshop

The workshop concluded with several recommendations, including:

1.Supporting counseling centers with specialized professionals in legal, psychological, and social fields.

2.Activating and developing community awareness programs to promote family culture.

3.Enacting and developing relevant legislation in line with social changes.

4.Establishing a monitoring and evaluation system for beneficiary cases to ensure effective and sustainable solutions.

This workshop comes within the framework of the College of Law – University of Baghdad’s efforts to promote legal and social awareness and to strengthen the role of academic institutions in addressing family-related issues that have significant social impact.
