The Continuing Education Unit at the College of Law – University of Baghdad organized a specialized scientific workshop on Tuesday, 20 January 2026, entitled “Strategies for Publishing in Indexed International Journals: Scopus and Web of Science.” The workshop was held in the college laboratory hall and delivered by lecturer Asst. Lecturer Ola Mohammed Basil.
The workshop aimed to develop researchers’ skills in professionally searching for accredited academic journals indexed in Scopus and Web of Science, and to help them select appropriate journals for publishing their research. It also addressed both free and paid publication options in line with academic ambitions and promotion requirements.
The workshop covered several topics, including clarification that Scopus is a database that does not itself impose publication fees, an introduction to different types of academic publishing, and methods for selecting free journals. It also explained the steps for searching reliable journals through official websites, highlighted the differences between Scopus and Web of Science, and emphasized the importance of journals indexed in both databases. In addition, the workshop discussed research quality standards and methods for avoiding predatory journals.
The workshop concluded with several recommendations, most notably the importance of selecting reliable and free academic journals, adhering to sound scientific methodology, updating references, and improving academic language. It also stressed the importance of relying on official sources to protect the research reputation of both researchers and institutions.
This workshop is part of the College of Law’s efforts at the University of Baghdad to support rigorous scientific research and promote the culture of international academic publishing.
