The Continuing Education Unit at the College of Law – University of Baghdad organized a workshop on Monday, 23 February 2026, at the Model Court Hall entitled:
“Litigation in Intellectual Property Cases between National Judiciary and International Arbitration.”
The workshop was delivered by Assistant Lecturer Masooma Hamed Abdulrahman.
The workshop aimed to enhance legal awareness of dispute-settlement mechanisms related to intellectual property rights and to highlight the procedural and substantive frameworks governing their consideration before national courts and international arbitration bodies. It also aimed to clarify the differences and complementarities between the two approaches and to analyze their advantages and challenges, helping specialists and interested participants choose the most appropriate legal method for protecting rights and ensuring effective enforcement in a modern legal environment.
The workshop addressed the following topics:
1.The nature of intellectual property disputes
2.Judicial jurisdiction in intellectual property disputes
3.International arbitration as an alternative dispute-resolution method
4.A comparison between national courts and arbitration
The workshop concluded with several recommendations:
1.Promoting specialized legal awareness of intellectual property disputes.
2.Introducing effective mechanisms for resolving intellectual property disputes.
3.Strengthening international cooperation in the enforcement of judgments.
