The College of Law – University of Baghdad held a scientific seminar titled “Language as the Student’s Primary Tool”, presented by Assistant Lecturer Lamia Ali Shanawa, on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, at the College of Law building.
The seminar aimed to highlight the central role of language in building the student’s academic personality and developing cognitive and communication skills, as it is considered a fundamental tool for learning, understanding, and interaction both inside and outside the university environment.
The seminar addressed several main topics, including:
1.The importance of language in the success of the educational process.
2.Developing students’ constructive listening and expression skills.
3.Promoting the effective use of language in academic study and university life.
4.Strengthening awareness of the importance of linguistic interaction in acquiring knowledge and building critical thinking.
The lecturer emphasized that language is not merely a means of communication, but rather the primary tool upon which students depend to achieve deeper learning, broader understanding, and more effective communication throughout their academic and professional careers.
At the conclusion of the seminar, several recommendations were presented, most notably:
1.The need for students to continuously develop their language skills.
2.Adopting constructive listening and practical application as foundations of learning.
3.Encouraging conscious and professional use of language in academic activities.
4.Promoting a culture of dialogue and linguistic interaction within the university campus.
