The Women’s Affairs Unit at the College of Law – University of Baghdad organized a legal awareness workshop entitled “The Iraqi Project for Implementing United Nations Security Council Resolution (1325).” The workshop was delivered by Associate Professor Dr. Lama Abdul Baqi Mahmoud as part of the pillar of sustainable development, participation, and institutional reform, on Monday, December 15, 2025, in the college’s Virtual Court Hall.
The workshop aimed to clarify the content of UN Security Council Resolution (1325) of 2000, which emphasized the fundamental role of women in conflict prevention, crisis management, and peacebuilding. It also highlighted the importance of ensuring women’s protection during armed conflicts, strengthening their participation in decision-making at both national and international levels, enhancing their empowerment in peace negotiations and conflict resolution, and supporting their roles within civil, military, and judicial institutions, alongside reinforcing their legal and social protection.
The workshop concluded with several recommendations, most notably:
1.Serious coordination between the Federal Government and the Kurdistan Region to regulate the implementation of the provisions of UN Security Council Resolution (1325) in accordance with a sustainable field implementation plan.
2.Allocating an independent budget for the implementation of the national action plan related to UN Resolution (1325), ensuring its effective application in practice.
