The Public Law at the College of Law – University of Baghdad organized a scientific seminar on Sunday, December 7, 2025, entitled: “A Study of the References of Environmental Thought and Its Ideological/Philosophical Foundations”, presented by Assistant Lecturer Esraa Abdul Ameer Ahmed in the college’s Model Court Hall.

The seminar aimed to provide an in-depth analysis of the intellectual references that contributed to the emergence and development of contemporary environmental movements, from ancient philosophical roots to modern ethical approaches and ideological trends. It also highlighted the evolving relationship between humans and the environment, and how philosophies throughout history shaped different perspectives on nature protection and sustainability.

The seminar addressed three main themes:

  1. Ancient philosophical roots of environmental thought.

  2. Modern intellectual references and their impact on shaping environmental awareness.

  3. Contemporary environmental ideological trends.

At the conclusion of the seminar, several key recommendations were proposed, most notably:

  1. Promoting environmental awareness and spreading a culture of environmental protection within universities and society, thereby reinforcing individual and collective responsibility towards the environment and the rights of future generations.

  2. Integrating environmental concepts into educational curricula, particularly topics such as climate justice and the green economy, and supporting related academic research.

  3. Adopting sustainable policies that encourage the use of clean energy, reduce pollution, and implement circular economy principles.
