The Dean of the College of Law at the University of Baghdad, Professor Dr. Ali Hadi Atiyah, in his capacity as a member of the National Committee for International Humanitarian Law, participated in the Second Consultation with States on International Humanitarian Law and Peace, organized by the International Committee of the Red Cross on Wednesday, November 26, 2025, in Geneva, Switzerland.
The sessions witnessed broad participation from legal experts, diplomats, and specialists in humanitarian affairs, in addition to representatives from governmental bodies and international organizations. Together, they discussed several key topics, most notably the adherence to international humanitarian law as a cornerstone for building sustainable peace. The participants also aimed to develop shared visions that support respect for international humanitarian law and strengthen political and humanitarian frameworks aimed at protecting human beings during conflicts and ensuring the preservation of their dignity.
