The Psychological Guidance and Educational Counseling Unit at the College of Law – University of Baghdad organized a seminar titled:
“The Impact of Drugs on Society,” presented by Asst. Lecturer Jihad Abbas Ali, on Monday, 24 November 2025, at the Moot Court Hall in the college.
The seminar aimed to highlight the dangers of drug abuse in society, explain mechanisms to curb it through deterrent legal measures, and emphasize the religious prohibition of these substances and its role in preventing their risks.
The seminar covered several key topics, including:
Defining drugs as substances that directly affect the mind, impairing its ability to perceive correctly, which leads to abnormal and socially unacceptable behavior.
Reviewing the severe negative effects of drug use, which prompted legislators to criminalize their production, distribution, and use to protect social structure and ensure a healthy society.
At the conclusion of the seminar, several recommendations were made, most notably:
Avoiding these substances in all forms.
Raising students’ awareness of the dangers of drugs.
Promoting a societal culture that rejects drugs to ensure a safe university environment and a cohesive society.
