The Continuing Education Unit at the College of Law – University of Baghdad organized, on Monday, 24 November 2025, a workshop entitled:
“Causes of Divorce and Its Effects on Iraqi Society,” held at the Moot Court Hall in the college and presented by Asst. Lecturer Asmaa Abdul Muhammad.
The workshop aimed to shed light on the phenomenon of divorce and its main causes in Iraqi society, in accordance with the Code of Sharia Provisions on Personal Status and the Ja’fari Shiite school of thought, in addition to discussing the social, psychological, and economic effects resulting from the increase in divorce cases.
The workshop addressed four main topics:

Definition and types of divorce.

Clarification of the main causes of divorce in Iraqi society.

Review of the effects of increasing divorce cases on the family and society.

Proposed recommendations to reduce the spread of this phenomenon.
The workshop concluded with several key recommendations, including:

Establishing specialized centers for psychological and marital counseling.

Emphasizing the protection of children’s rights and ensuring they are not marginalized.

Raising awareness among couples about the importance of competency conditions.

Providing social and psychological specialists to support children affected by post-divorce issues.
