As part of the activities of the Continuing Education Unit, the College of Law – University of Baghdad organized a workshop entitled “Youth and Drugs: Legal Prevention and Social Responsibility” on Wednesday, 19/11/2025, at the College of Law building. The workshop was delivered by Lecturer Dr. Mohammed Ahmed Issa.

The workshop aimed to explain the negative effects and harms of drugs on both the individual and society, and to review the legal problems resulting from drug use, possession, circulation, or trafficking. It also shed light on preventive methods to curb the spread of this phenomenon and clarified the legislative stance regulating drug-related issues in Iraq.

The workshop included several key themes, most notably:

1.Defining the concept of drug use and clarifying the position of Iraqi legislation toward it.

2.Presenting preventive measures to reduce drug abuse and identifying the role of legal and community institutions in combating it.

The workshop concluded with a set of practical and theoretical recommendations, the most important of which were:

1.The necessity for the legislator to take more effective steps in combating drugs.

2.Enhancing legal and social awareness through the continued organization of seminars and religious and cultural lectures.

3.Addressing the causes and factors that drive youth toward drug use and developing support programs for the rehabilitation of those involved in addiction.
