Under the patronage of the Dean of the College of Law, Professor Dr. Ali Hadi Atiya, the Media and Government Communication Unit at the College of Law – University of Baghdad, in cooperation with the Ministry of Interior / General Directorate for Drug and Psychotropic Substances Affairs in Baghdad (Rusafa side), organized an educational seminar entitled “Drug Law No. 50 of 2017 and Iraq’s Role in Combating Drugs” on Tuesday, 18/11/2025, at the Model Court Hall in the college.
The seminar aimed to raise students’ awareness of the dangers of drugs and to strengthen their support for national efforts to combat this phenomenon.
The seminar was chaired by Assistant Professor Dr. Samer Saadoun Aboud, while the lectures were delivered by Mr. Hussam Mousa Hamza and Mr. Mohammed Rahi Ghali.
The speakers addressed the phenomenon of drugs and their negative effects on the individual and society, emphasizing the importance of raising awareness among students and encouraging them to stay away from this dangerous scourge.
At the conclusion of the seminar, several recommendations were issued, most notably:
1.Enhancing awareness programs within universities to reduce the spread of drugs among young people.
2.Supporting cooperation between educational institutions and the Ministry of Interior in organizing periodic events to educate students about the legal and health risks of drugs.
3.Including topics related to combating drugs within student activities to broaden the scope of awareness.
4.Providing psychological and social support channels for students and guiding them toward positive behaviors away from this menace.
