The Private Law Branch at the College of Law at the University of Baghdad held a symposium entitled (The Basis of the State’s Civil Responsibility for the Damages of Nuclear Radioactive Pollution). The symposium was chaired by the Head of the Private Law Branch (Professor Dr. Jalil Hassan Al-Saadi) and commented on by the lecturer in the Private Law Branch (Dr. Nisreen Ghanem) in the presence of A number of faculty and students of the college, on the conference hall in the college.
The symposium included several axes, including defining nuclear radioactive pollution and clarifying the types of nuclear radiation, defining the state’s civil liability for the damages of nuclear radioactive pollution, and clarifying the legal basis for the state’s civil liability for the damages of nuclear radioactive pollution.
The aim of the symposium is to introduce the effects of nuclear radioactive contamination on the environment and to explain the effects of war remnants and their harmful effects on living organisms.
The symposium resulted in several recommendations, including activating international law in the field of peaceful activities, exchanging experiences at the level of governmental and non-governmental organizations, especially with regard to how to confront radiological emergencies, taking serious steps by the international community to get rid of radioactive nuclear waste created by wars, especially in southern Iraq, conclusion An international agreement or joining the agreements in force that includes all legal aspects related to international responsibility for conducting nuclear weapons tests.
