In the framework of scientific efforts aimed at serving society and keeping pace with the latest developments in legal sciences, two new academic books have recently been published by Professor Dr. Musaddaq Adel, a faculty member at the College of Law – University of Baghdad, entitled:

1.The Personal Status Law No. (1) of 2025: A Constitutional and Sharia Perspective

2.Personal Status and Constitutional Judiciary in Iraq

The first book presents a constitutional and Sharia-based analysis of the Personal Status Law No. (1) of 2025, within the context of a comprehensive qualitative shift toward guaranteeing the freedom of the Iraqi individual to choose their personal status according to religion, sect, or personal choice, in harmony with Article (41) of the Constitution of the Republic of Iraq (2005).

It also includes a study of the Islamic legal foundations of the new law’s provisions, along with an objective evaluation of its legislative drafting.

The second book focuses on the positive roles played by the Federal Supreme Court in personal status cases since its establishment in 2005, as a serious attempt to outline the trends of constitutional jurisprudence in Iraq concerning the enactment of the Personal Status Law No. (1) of 2025.

It is expected that these two works will contribute to promoting legal and constitutional awareness and to strengthening the understanding of the rights and freedoms guaranteed by the Iraqi Constitution.
