The Continuing Education Unit at the College of Law—University of Baghdad organized a scientific workshop on Monday, June 2, 2025, titled “The Crime of Human Organ Trafficking,” presented by Assistant Lecturer Jalila Ghadhban Oudah.
The workshop aimed to introduce the crime of human organ trafficking and its various forms while highlighting the relevant legal and human rights frameworks both locally and internationally.
The workshop covered several key topics, including
1. The concept of human organ trafficking.
2. The forms of human trafficking crimes as outlined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and international conventions.
3. The penalties for the crime of human trafficking under Law No. 28 of 2012.
At the conclusion of the workshop, a set of important recommendations was presented, most notably:
1. The need to develop and establish guidelines to help relevant officials in the early identification of victims, and to train them on appropriate mechanisms and procedures.
2. Strengthening investigations and legal prosecutions to ensure strict penalties are imposed on perpetrators of human organ trafficking crimes.
3. Encouraging cooperation and coordination with relevant authorities at both the local and international levels, to support victims and exchange expertise and information with neighbouring countries and specialized international organizations.
This workshop comes as part of the college’s efforts to promote legal awareness regarding human rights issues and to update the legal knowledge of its faculty and students on the most serious transnational crimes.
