On Monday, June 2, 2025, the Continuing Education Unit at the College of Law – University of Baghdad organized a scientific workshop entitled:

“The Crime of Human Organ Trafficking,”

presented by Assistant Lecturer Jalila Ghadban Ouda.

The workshop aimed to define the crime of human organ trafficking in its various forms and to shed light on the relevant legal and human rights frameworks, both locally and internationally.

The workshop addressed several key topics, including:

  1. The concept of human organ trafficking.
  2. Forms of human trafficking as outlined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and international conventions.
  3. Legal penalties for human trafficking crimes according to the provisions of Law No. 28 of 2012.

At the conclusion of the workshop, a number of important recommendations were made, most notably:

  1. The need to develop and establish guidelines to help relevant authorities in the early identification of victims, and to train them on appropriate procedures and mechanisms.
  2. Strengthening legal investigations and prosecutions to ensure strict penalties for perpetrators of organ trafficking crimes.
  3. Encouraging cooperation and coordination with relevant local and international bodies to support victims and to exchange expertise and information with neighboring countries and specialized international organizations.

This workshop comes as part of the college’s ongoing efforts to enhance legal awareness on human rights issues and to update the legal knowledge of its staff and students regarding the most serious transnational crimes.
