The Continuing Education Unit at the College of Law – University of Baghdad organized a workshop on Sunday, June 1, 2025, entitled:

“Legal Penalties for the Crime of Drug and Psychotropic Substance Use According to Law No. 50 of 2017,”

presented by Assistant Lecturer Jalila Ghadban Ouda, with the attendance of several faculty members, staff, and postgraduate students.

The workshop aimed to raise awareness about the dangers of drug use and to help curb its spread among youth by highlighting the legal and social dimensions of this growing phenomenon.

The workshop included several key topics, most notably:

  1. Definition of drugs.
  2. Types of drugs.
  3. Classification of drugs.
  4. Signs of drug users.
  5. Legal penalties stipulated for drug use.

At the conclusion of the workshop, several recommendations were made, including:

  1. The necessity of enforcing the Drug and Psychotropic Substances Law in a way that aligns with ongoing social changes.
  2. Intensifying penalties against drug dealers and promoters of all kinds, regardless of the potency of the substance involved.

This workshop falls within the College of Law’s ongoing efforts to promote legal and health awareness across various segments of society and to contribute to protecting the social fabric from the threat of drugs.
