College of Law – University of Baghdad Organizes Workshop on the Impact of Artificial Intelligence on Authorship and Publishing

As part of its Continuing Education Unit activities, the College of Law at the University of Baghdad organized a workshop titled “The Impact of Artificial Intelligence on Authorship and Publishing” on Monday, May 12, 2025, presented by Lecturer Huda Faiq Abdul and Asst. Lecturer Jihad Abbas Ali.

The workshop aimed to highlight the legal and ethical challenges posed by artificial intelligence, particularly in the fields of authorship and publishing. AI has emerged as one of the most prominent modern technologies due to its efficiency and ability to perform creative tasks. The session discussed the need to protect authors’ rights and activate intellectual property laws in light of the increasing use of these technologies.

The workshop covered three main topics:

  1. The concept of artificial intelligence.
  2. The advantages of artificial intelligence.
  3. The risks of artificial intelligence in the fields of authorship and publishing.

At the conclusion of the workshop, several key recommendations were made, including:

  1. The necessity of regulating smart systems through the establishment of laws and regulations that ensure their safe and legal use.
  2. Activating intellectual property laws to cover works created by artificial intelligence.
  3. The issuance of legislation to guarantee authors’ rights and protect them from academic theft.
