As part of its ongoing academic activities aimed at enhancing legal awareness among students, the Continuing Education Unit at the College of Law – University of Baghdad organized a workshop on April 17, 2025, entitled: “The Amendment of Personal Status Law No. (1) of 2025: A Critical and Analytical Perspective.”
The workshop was delivered by Professor Dr. Hameed Sultan Ali and attended by college members, students, and staff of the College, held at the College’s Conference Hall.
🟤 The workshop aimed to introduce the recent amendments to the Iraqi Personal Status Law, in accordance with the system of Sharia-based codifications, and to highlight the key provisions introduced by the amendment.
🟣 The workshop addressed several main topics, including:

An introduction to the importance of the family and its role in society.

A definition and explanation of the concept of the Sharia codification.

A detailed overview of the provisions introduced by the amendment and the most significant legal issues it addressed.
🟢 The workshop concluded with several key recommendations, most notably:

The Sharia codification should not serve as a substitute for the provisions of the currently applicable law.

Recourse to the codification should be limited to matters not addressed by existing legal provisions.

The Scientific Council of the Shiite Endowment Authority should fully assume its role in preparing the codification within the prescribed timelines.
