As part of the scientific efforts aimed at serving society and keeping up with the latest legal developments, a new scholarly work titled “Law and the Metaverse: Legislative Frameworks for Emerging Digital Worlds – A Study of French and English Law” has recently been published. This work is a joint authorship between Professor Dr. Jalil Hassan Al-Saadi, the Scientific Assistant at the College of Law, University of Baghdad, and Assistant Professor Dr. Lubna Abdul-Hussein Al-Saidi.

The book sheds light on the impact of the metaverse on individuals’ lives in various fields and the resulting new legal challenges that affect all branches of law. It discusses the effects of these digital worlds on:

  • Civil Law: Focusing on contracts, civil liability, and individual rights.
  • Commercial Law: Particularly regarding e-commerce, non-fungible tokens (NFTs), and digital currencies.
  • Intellectual Property Law: Protecting digital content and innovations in virtual spaces.
  • Family Law: Addressing potential legal issues related to family relationships in digital environments.
  • Labor Law: The influence of the metaverse on employment contracts and remote work.
  • Criminal Law: Concerning digital crimes and criminal liability for actions committed within these worlds.
  • International Public and Private Law: Regarding conflicts of laws and legal sovereignty in virtual spaces.
  • Constitutional and Financial Law: The metaverse’s impact on public rights and freedoms as well as tax systems.

 The book aims to provide innovative legal solutions to keep up with the rapid developments in the metaverse, based on French and English law, making it an important reference for researchers and decision-makers in the field of digital legislation.
