As part of its awareness efforts to combat modern negative phenomena, the Continuing Education Unit at the College of Law, University of Baghdad, organized a workshop on Sunday, March 11, 2025, titled “The Legal Issues Arising from the Use of Digital Drugs,” held in the Leadership Hall of the college.

The workshop was presented by Assistant Lecturer Asmaa Abdul Mohammed, who discussed the concept of digital drugs as a new phenomenon that relies on digital audio data simulating the effects of traditional drugs, raising numerous legal and social risks. The workshop also reviewed types of digital drugs, categorized according to their effects similar to traditional drugs such as cocaine and marijuana.

The workshop also highlighted the causes leading to the drift towards this phenomenon, including unemployment, emptiness, weak religious and moral values, and the absence of family and community oversight.

At the end of the workshop, several important recommendations were made, most notably:

  1. The need for legislative action through the enactment of clear laws to criminalize the use of digital drugs.
  2. Strengthening family awareness by guiding parents to monitor their children’s internet use.
  3. The active role of media in spreading awareness about the risks of digital drugs, especially among youth, who are most affected by them.
  4. Activating government oversight to ban websites promoting this type of drug, to protect future generations.

The workshop received great interaction from faculty members and staff, where many inquiries were discussed about ways to reduce the spread of this phenomenon, emphasizing the importance of intensifying legal and media efforts to confront it.
