As part of international cooperation and the College of Law at the University of Baghdad’s efforts to meet international standards in academic research, the college hosted Professor Dr. Amal Al-Jubouri, a college member at the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London. She delivered a specialized scientific lecture titled “Mastering Legal Research for Documentation and Citation Systems According to Harvard, Chicago, and OSCOLA Styles” on Tuesday, March 11, 2025, at the college’s conference hall.
The lecture was attended by several college members and post-graduate students, and it covered key topics, the most important of which were citation systems and their significance in enhancing the quality of legal research. Dr. Al-Jubouri emphasized that adhering to global documentation systems, such as Chicago, OSCOLA, and Harvard, is a fundamental standard to ensure the accuracy and credibility of scientific research, which contributes to producing high-quality research that reflects well on both the college and its students internationally.
She also stressed the importance of choosing relevant research topics, accurate translation, and drafting research in clear language, along with the necessity of deep preparation and continuous reading, while cautioning against relying on artificial intelligence technologies for writing research and studies.
The seminar saw significant interaction from the students, who raised numerous questions regarding legal research methodologies and citation practices. Dr. Amal Al-Jubouri expressed her readiness for continued collaboration with the college to contribute to the development of legal research and support the academic and scientific journey in Iraq.
