The College of Law at the University of Baghdad participated in the sixth edition of the International Commercial Arbitration Competition in Arabic, held in Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The event was organized by the Saudi Center for Commercial Arbitration in collaboration with prominent international organizations, including the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL), the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Commercial Law Development Program, and the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb).
The college’s team competed against 154 teams from various Arab and international universities. The students demonstrated high-level skills in commercial arbitration, reflecting the quality of academic and training preparation provided by the college, enhancing its standing both academically and professionally.
In a distinguished individual achievement, student Zahra’a Haidar Ahmed received the award for Best Advocate, ranking seventh out of 462 advocates, which reflects her excellence in legal advocacy and her ability to present a professional case before international arbitration panels.
The College of Law at the University of Baghdad was committed to supporting its students and enabling their participation in these global competitions, viewing it as a valuable opportunity to gain practical experience in international commercial arbitration and enhance their skills in advocacy before international arbitration bodies.
As part of supporting academic excellence, the student team received full financial support from the Saudi Center for Commercial Arbitration and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), which covered travel and accommodation costs, in recognition of the outstanding performance the team delivered during the competition.
The academic supervision of the team was carried out by Dr. Lubna Abd al-Hussein Issa and Dr. Muna Naeem Jaaz, who provided guidance and support to ensure the best possible results.
The student team consisted of Abdullah Safaa Najm, Sajjad Alaa Fadel, Fatima Diaa Jihad, and Zahra’a Haidar Ahmed, who demonstrated commitment and great effort during the stages of the competition.
This achievement is a significant addition to the journey of the College of Law at the University of Baghdad, opening broader horizons for its students to excel in the legal field. It enhances their presence in international forums and affirms the college’s position among the leading academic institutions in the field of law.
