The Media and Government Communication Division at the College of Law, University of Baghdad, in collaboration with the Relations and Media Department of the General Directorate for Narcotics and Psychoactive Substances, organized an awareness seminar titled “The Dangers of the Drug Epidemic and Ways to Prevent Its Spread.” This event was part of the ongoing efforts to combat this phenomenon and raise societal awareness of its dangers. It took place on Wednesday, February 26, 2025, in the conference hall of the college.

The session was chaired by Professor Dr. Alaa Nasser Hussein, while the seminar was presented by Mr. Youssef Mahboub, representing the Relations and Media Department of the General Directorate for Narcotics and Psychoactive Substances.

The seminar highlighted the negative impacts of drug abuse on individuals and society, as well as the importance of awareness campaigns in universities to promote legal and health consciousness among youth. The speaker also addressed key government efforts in combating drugs, including security and legislative measures aimed at limiting their spread and punishing those involved in trafficking.

The seminar witnessed significant interaction from the audience, where discussions took place on ways to enhance cooperation between academic institutions and security agencies to raise awareness of the dangers of drugs. Additionally, recent statistics on drug spread in Iraq were presented.

In conclusion, the seminar emphasized the necessity of intensifying awareness campaigns, raising legal and health awareness among young people, and enhancing the role of educational institutions in combating this epidemic, alongside calls for stricter penalties on traffickers and promoters to protect society from its devastating effects.
