“The college of Law at the University of Baghdad organized a workshop on February 24, 2025, as part of the Academic Affairs Unit, titled ‘Cyberbullying in Universities: Its Causes and How to Deal with It,’ presented by Assistant lecturer Eman Hussam Hatem.
The workshop addressed the concept of cyberbullying as a growing social phenomenon, highlighting it as one of the forms of abuse carried out via the internet or social media platforms, manifested in the spreading of rumours, threats, offensive messages, or sharing embarrassing content to harm the targeted individual psychologically.
The workshop covered several key topics, including:
- Causes and motives of cyberbullying.
- The impact of technology and social media on the spread of the phenomenon.
- The psychological and emotional impact on the victims.
- The role of universities in combating cyberbullying.
The workshop concluded with several important recommendations, including:
- Organizing periodic awareness campaigns about the risks of cyberbullying and its effects.
- Incorporating courses or workshops within university curricula to educate students about their rights and how to deal with this phenomenon.
- Creating online platforms that allow students to report cases of cyberbullying confidentially and securely.
- Establishing psychological and social support teams within universities to assist victims and provide necessary counselling.
The workshop concluded by emphasizing that cyberbullying represents a challenge that requires a collective effort through awareness, psychological support, and the enforcement of strict laws to reduce this phenomenon. A survey was distributed to students to gather their opinions on whether they had experienced cyberbullying inside or outside the university, and the psychological impact it had on them, aiming to enhance efforts in combating this issue.”
