“February 18, 2025 – The Psychological Counselling and Educational Guidance Unit at the College of Law – University of Baghdad organized a scientific seminar titled ‘The Role of Educational Institutions in Combating Drugs,’ presented by Professor Dr. Mahmoud Khalil Jafar, a faculty member in the International Law.
The speaker began the seminar with an introduction on the scourge of drugs, emphasizing their danger and the importance of combating them. The seminar covered several key topics, including:
- The causes of drug abuse and the factors leading to its spread.
- The negative and destructive effects of drug use and addiction.
- The role of educational institutions in addressing and reducing this phenomenon.
- Practical solutions for effectively combating drugs and confronting this issue.
The seminar aimed to raise awareness among students about the dangers of drugs and their negative effects, develop life skills in youth to help them deal with social pressures and make sound decisions, enhance self-confidence and community belonging among students, and reinforce positive values.
The seminar concluded with several recommendations, the most prominent being:
- Activating the role of educational institutions in spreading awareness about the dangers of drugs and their destructive effects.
- Including the topic of drugs in scientific research and university theses, focusing on the legal aspects of combating them.
This seminar is part of the College of Law – University of Baghdad’s commitment to actively contribute to community awareness and strengthen the role of academic institutions in addressing challenges that threaten youth and society.”
