The College of Law at the University of Baghdad participated in a workshop on the Shanghai University Ranking, organized by the University of Baghdad in collaboration with the Scientific Supervision and Evaluation Authority at the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. The workshop saw wide participation from representatives of quality assurance departments at Iraqi universities and was attended by the President of the University of Baghdad and the Director of the University’s Quality Assurance and University Performance Department, on Wednesday, January 8, 2024.
Representing the College of Law, the workshop was attended by:
- Professor Dr. Hadi Naeem Al-Maliki, Chair of the Central Scientific Committee at the College of Law
- Professor Dr. Ban Salah Abdul Qader, Head of the Quality Assurance and Performance Evaluation Division
- Associate Professor Dr. Samer Saadoun Aboud, Head of the Criminal Law Department
- Lecturer. Mohammed Ismail Jumaa, Head of the International Law Department
- Mrs. Sura Abdul Hussein, employee in the Quality Assurance Division.
The President of the University of Baghdad, Professor Dr. Bahaa Ibrahim Ensaaf, emphasized the university’s commitment to enhancing the quality of education and scientific research. He confirmed that the Shanghai ranking is an international standard that highlights universities with exceptional performance, which requires continuous efforts to meet excellence criteria.
The workshop covered several key topics, focusing mainly on the criteria used by the Shanghai ranking to assess universities. These include scientific research, publication in reputable journals, the number of citations of research, and the number of international awards received by faculty members and graduates.
At the end of the workshop, a discussion session was held to exchange ideas and generate practical recommendations. These recommendations are expected to contribute to improving the university’s position in global rankings and enhancing its competitiveness in the international academic arena.
