Under the patronage of the Dean of the College of Law, Professor Dr. Ali Hadi Atiya, and in cooperation with the Ministry of Interior, the Media and Government Communication Division of the College of Law at the University of Baghdad organized an awareness seminar titled “Registration of Light Weapons for Citizens and the Purchase of Medium Weapons.” The session was chaired by Professor Dr. Kazem Abdullah Al-Shammari, a lecturer in the Criminal Law, and presented by Assistant Deputy Minister of Interior, Major General Mansour Ali Sultan. The seminar was attended by college members, staff, and students of the college on Thursday, December 26, 2024, in the college’s conference hall.
The seminar aimed to raise awareness and educate various segments of society, including university youth, about the dangers of the spread of unlicensed weapons and their impact on security and social peace.
It included several key topics, most notably:
• The process of registering citizens’ weapons through the electronic form launched via the “Ur Portal” website.
• The establishment of a national database for all weapons held by security ministries, licensed to citizens, or confiscated.
The seminar concluded with several recommendations, the most important of which were:
1. Emphasizing the promotion of a culture of restricting weapons to state control.
2. Discouraging citizens from possessing unlicensed weapons to avoid legal accountability.
3. Reducing the use of violence-inciting games and their negative impact on Iraqi youth.
