Under the auspices of the president of the University of Baghdad, Dr. Baha Ensaf and the women’s affairs division, the National Pioneering Center for Cancer Research, in cooperation with the College of law, organized an awareness seminar entitled (The impact of cancer on family building), delivered by Assistant Professor Dr. kawakeb Najmuddin Abdullah, director of the National pioneering Center for cancer research, on November 27/2024, the seminar was attended by a number of female lecturers, employees and students, on the conference hall at the college.
The seminar aimed to highlight the symptoms of cervical cancer, including abnormal bleeding, pain in the pelvic area, and unusual discharge, while emphasizing the importance of early detection in increasing the chances of treatment and recovery.
The seminar dealt with several important topics, most notably the causes of cervical cancer, of which the human papillomavirus (HPV) is one of the most prominent causes. The most dangerous types of the virus, which may lead to cervical cancer, were indicated, such as the two strains 16 and 18.
The seminar concluded with the participants stressing the importance of community awareness and strengthening joint efforts between academic and health institutions to reduce the spread of the disease and protect women’s health.
