The importance of studying French at the college of Law – University of Baghdad for first graders: the students can choose to study French or English as part of their curriculum in the first year. A student who chooses one of the two languages must commit to studying it throughout the school years until graduation.
The advantage of studying in French: the French class is considered special, as the outstanding students have a great opportunity to receive a scholarship provided by the French government to complete their higher studies in France.
Curriculum: the curriculum is prepared to suit the level of students, whether they do not know French or have a simple knowledge of it. The curriculum aims to provide the basics of the French language along with the basic legal terms and concepts that the student needs in his studies. This curriculum was prepared in cooperation between the college of Law/ University of Baghdad (under the supervision of professors who graduated from French universities or studied French as a specialty language), and the French Embassy in Baghdad, through a specialized expert to enhance this cooperation.
The importance of studying French: in addition to acquiring a new language, students who choose French will gain knowledge of legal terminology and the basics of law in its various branches, enhancing their understanding of the Iraqi legal system, which was influenced by French legal thought. Learning French as a public or legal language will open up wide horizons for students, both in their academic career and in life.
