The Criminal Law at the college of Law, University of Baghdad, held a scientific seminar entitled (The role of the family in reducing the phenomenon of juvenile delinquency), delivered by a lecturer in the Criminal Law (Dr. Kazem Abdullah Al-Shammari), on Tuesday, 15/10/2024 in the building of the college of law.
The seminar aimed to shed light on the legal texts contained in the Iraqi Juvenile Welfare Law No .76 for a year1983 that relate to the legal duties assigned to the family in this regard and try to activate them.
The seminar included several topics, including the warning of the event and the role of the family in its implementation, handing over the event to a guardian and the legal duties imposed by law on the family of the juvenile delinquent in order to follow up, evaluate, discipline and keep him away from bad owners and suspicious places.
The seminar came up with several recommendations, the most important of which is to activate the application of the juvenile delinquent warning measures in violations, and hand over the juvenile to his guardian( father / mother / relatives ) in misdemeanors as a uniqueness of the measures and as an alternative to the negative measures of freedom, we propose to amend both Article ( 72) and Article (73) of the Iraqi juvenile welfare law by adding and specifying family obligations when applying what is contained in them .
