The Continuing Education Unit at the college of Law, University of Baghdad, conducted a workshop entitled scientific treason (scientific plagiarism as a model), delivered by the lecturer in the Criminal Law (lecturer Sahar Fouad Majid), in the presence of college lecturers and staff, on Wednesday 26/6/2024 in the building of the college of law.

The workshop aims to introduce the nature of scientific treason, clarify the concept of scientific plagiarism and the consequences that occur to the perpetrators of such plagiarism from researchers and lecturers, indicate the forms of plagiarism and methods of detection, and the mechanism of benefiting from modern technology in this field.

The workshop included several topics, including the definition of scientific treason and scientific plagiarism, the legal structure of the crime of scientific plagiarism and the penalty resulting from the crime, the use of modern technology in detecting scientific plagiarism.

The seminar came up with recommendations, the most important of which is the need to educate the university community about the aspects of scientific plagiarism by relying on videos or awareness leaflets, adding a paragraph in the academic system under penalties to clarify the punishment for academic plagiarism.
