The college of law at the University of Baghdad discussed a master’s thesis in the international law of the student (Hassan Ahmed Hassan), labelled (the Impact of the Peaceful Use of Nuclear Energy on Environmental Security), on Wednesday, 24/4/2024 on the model courtroom at the college.
The thesis aims to highlight the importance of the peaceful use of nuclear energy in human development and well-being and the right of states to use nuclear energy for peaceful purposes such as medicine, agriculture, industry, food security and environmental security.
The first chapter dealt with the conceptual framework of nuclear energy and environmental security, the second chapter dealt with international agreements and guarantees for the peaceful use of nuclear energy and its role in achieving environmental security, and the third chapter dealt with international liability for damage resulting from the peaceful uses of nuclear energy.
The thesis came out with several recommendations, the most important of which is to seek to develop and spread the peaceful use of nuclear energy and encourage countries to do so by raising the level of safety and reducing risks, the need for countries that have not been regulated to join the international treaties regulating the peaceful use of nuclear energy in order to develop these treaties and establish factors of trust between all these countries.
